OPPORTUNITIES
AND CHOICES is a six year reproductive
health research programme based in the Southampton
Statistical Sciences Research Institute, University
of Southampton, UK. The programme, funded
by the Department
for International Development, is organised
and operated in collaboration with the Centre
for Sexual Health Research, University of Southampton
and Marie
Stopes International.
The
programme focuses on research into reproductive
health in countries, with a special emphasis
on poverty and equity.
The programme aims to provide evidence-based
research to improve the availability, quality,
and efficiency of reproductive health services
in resource poor environments.
Programme Goals
The
overall goal of the Opportunities and Choices
programme is to conduct operations research
to provide evidence-based family planning and
reproductive health service delivery in developing
countries. The two main purposes of the knowledge
programme are:
- To
increase the impact of existing reproductive
health services through enhanced understanding
of methods for improving their efficiency,
effectiveness and quality of care.
- To
develop new mechanisms for providing reproductive
health services to meet the needs of currently
under served groups.
